Becoming the Sun

Keep having coffee and dreaming…
Keep writing and laughing and sharing what you know.
Keep describing the face of god until your eyes are unblinded by tears.
You may not find what you thought you would among these grasses…
but you will find poetry.
And you will always be led.
Never think help is not there when you ask for it…
and even when you don’t.
Don’t compare yourself to anyone,
be they in better or worse seeming circumstances than your own.
Don’t compare yourself to the others who seem to be
in the same circumstances either.
You are brave and bright as any sun.
You are wild and you may taste your freedom without burning up.
Keep trusting and have no shame.
Go to the oracle within…
always the oracle within.

When I was little I had one of those worry-rocks made of soft stone with a groove to rub your thumb along. One day, hanging upside-down on the monkey bars it fell out of my pocket and broke in four pieces on the ground. “It only means that something better will come along to replace it, ” my mother said. I loved that idea and felt completely consoled. If only we could all remember to feel that spirit about loss, knowing that there must always be a greater plan at work, and that we are never left alone.
Recently I have been reconnecting with old friends that I thought I might never get to know again, from India to a few blocks away. It is an amazing gift, like finding a precious old artifact from your past that reminds you of what was powerful and meaningful about that time in your life. Sometimes opening doors to the past can drain us or draw our energy out of the moment, but sometimes it can be an incredibly empowering experience.
If we stepped away from some part of who we were in the past due to associating it with pain, then once the pain is gone we can reclaim those parts of ourselves in new ways. It is part of the beauty of what we lost coming back to us in a renewed and even better form. We come to trust the universe, and even what feels like our stumblings and our misses as part of the universe’s plan to give us everything our souls desire.
Consider making a scrapbook dedicated to yourself and your life. A book filled with images and words that capture phases of your life in their best light…in the way that you still feel rewarded by them. If there are times that still feel entirely unredeemed, just leave those out! This book should be something that honors the amazing range of qualities you embody and possess, and the beautiful spectrum your life has contained. Include wonderful things people have said about you, or the highlights of all of your memories at the times you felt your best. Include the wisdom and the gifts gained from the darker journeys through the underworld, if those gifts have already been revealed.
You never know what miracle could be waiting for you next in life. It could be something entirely unexpected…even if you think you know what to expect in your near future. Take a moment if you like, in your day today, and imagine a few ways in which miracles could enter your life. Just give yourself permission to daydream. Each time you do that you open a tiny window into a great light, and a vast and amazing field of possibilities before you. Here is to the light of the miracles which may cross your path at any time…Love, Jennifer
