Pleasure is Resistance

I believe in love.

If I had to consolidate all of what I believe into one sentence, that would be it.

I believe our inner guidance helps us remain authentic, and that authenticity leads to more pleasure.  And I believe that pleasure and authenticity are how we experience the love that we are.

I believe pleasure saves lives.

I believe that pleasure is medicine that keeps us in touch with our true power and our true nature as love, and that it is a medicine the world needs.

Pleasure is not the only the only medicine, but it is free and potentially accessible to all if we can find the sometimes-winding path to reach it.  Finding the path there when it feels like the world is in peril can be very hard, but I want to really express to you how much it matters.  Because most people I know care so deeply about what happens to all others and the suffering of the world, that they don’t believe they should be able to focus on their own pleasure.

Finding ways to nourish yourself with pleasure, however, is the very fuel you need in order to make the biggest difference that you can in the world, and have the most potent impact.  It’s an amplifier, a nourisher, an inspirer, a source of revelation, healing and pure power.

The hardship, I know, is that it’s difficult to reach in times of struggle.  But finding ways to do that is an important part my work and what I teach in my courses, and this journey of finding ways to do that is worthy work.

I focus on my own pleasure and teaching others how to access more of their own as an act of resistance.

It is so that I and others can keep fighting the fight, and do so by continuing to embody and stand for love.  It is so that we can be nourished and ignited, and so we can heal and be ready to bring through more of the beautiful gifts we came here to bring the world.  Because every time we take care of ourselves, it is activism.  Every time we take care of our loved ones it is activism, and when we do this is makes us more available for other kinds of activism we might be called to.

At a dance I went to last night, feeling my body move and watching the revelry, I thought about how much easier it was in times where as a community we gathered this way every night.

This is how we healed, I thought.  This is how we still had pleasure in hard times, and expressed and moved through pain and grief.  We got together around the fire and we danced, and we sang and made music.  And then maybe sexual pleasure felt more available, even when times were hard.  Because nearly none of us have that now, it means that what we must be at this time is a kind of renegade, learning the craft of still accessing pleasure (anything from the barest of relief or comfort, to full ecstatic states,) even without ideal conditions.  As we get better and better at this, it becomes a superpower, and helps us navigate life and hardship in a completely different way.

I’m writing this because I know some of you would like to know my perspective on the state of the world.  Some might wonder how I could share newsletters and other offerings highlighting sexual themes in a time like this, and my response is how can I not?  While there are many paths to finding the wisdom, love and power inside, this is one of them.  Pleasure in the body in any way a person can experience it, is an antidote to the dread and the freeze it brings to know the harm happening in the world.  But to find and restore pleasure in our lives and bodies, if we wish to, we need safe paths back to it, even in the face of hardship.

Then we wake up in the night with the answers and the courage we need to fight.  With fierce love.

So yes, I get up every day and fight this way.  I make newsletters about stories of an ancient priestess that found her power this way, and do what I can to make room to finish the rest of the book with these stories, The Return of the Sexual Priestess.

This is my mission, my purpose.  To protect the remembering of love, and disperse it as widely as I can…spread the light.  To show others they have the answers inside of them, every time, and power they have yet untapped.

That power inside is what is needed.

And I know we are afraid of it..because we were scared out of being in touch with it, so that false power could reign.  My job, at best, is to help make it safe to find that power again, and tap into it and the wisdom it brings.

I don’t forget what I’m doing and why.  And I let the tragedies move me and inform my actions, without letting them consume me…because then all would be lost.

I don’t want to lose the ability to take action, make healthy empowered choices, think creatively, inspire others, and be a source of potent support for my loved ones, my community, and the communities in need beyond them.

If we knew how much our getting out of bed, and just being authentically ourselves mattered, we’d be more emboldened to take further inspired action.

I don’t just talk about pleasure and magic to bring about some pretty image of swirling golden light or unicorns.  I talk about them because they are what we are, and what saves everything.  Not just when “all evil is banished” but when you lean down to pet a dog, and you both light up each other’s lives in that moment.  You can’t see it, but magic happens then.  Some degree of pleasure and connection heal you both.  And if we amplify that pleasure and connection in our lives we can further change the world.  You matter more than you know…more than I can ever possibly tell you.

So yes, pleasure still matters.  Maybe more than ever.  It will nourish and fortify us, and keep us from losing ourselves.  True pleasure always shows us the way back.

Here is the big and important question: how does your love want to show itself?

Thank you for caring…because I know how much you who love and follow my work care with all of your being.  It matters.  We are stronger than we think, and our pleasure and magic and goodness has more of an impact than with think.  I am standing by your side, and as we all stand side by side we span the world…

…and we are mighty.

Never forget.  Now, if you’d like, go do something lovely for yourself to recharge, so you can dream the new dream.  Because that’s the dream we need.

I love you,

Jennifer
