Unwavering Faith

Our time on this earth is fleeting, but dense. It is a feather that slips through our hands every day, but a heavy weight some nights. We find the things that make our hearts grow beautiful wings and soar, and then feel suddenly as if sliding backward down a steep slope, with no feeling of control. And if we are lucky, we know when to just let go, and give in, and when to fight the current like mad until we find the shore.

For a moment, as you read these words, consider the stories you have heard of people who inhabited or still live upon the earth whose faith was unshakable. Who trusted against all odds that the universe was looking out for them, standing by their sides, living and breathing within them. They believed that there was no mistake anywhere in the universe or in their lives, and that they could not do wrong if they followed their hearts.

Perhaps you are one of these people at this very moment.

Whether or not you feel that you are, take an imaginary journey with me today. Imagine that you have done everything right in your life, just as you should have. Imagine that whatever choices you make in the present and from this moment forward will be perfect too. Imagine that it would not be possible for you to make the wrong choice. Imagine that however long it may be taking, or have taken in the past, the fondest dreams of your heart will most certainly come true. They may change or reveal themselves in new forms along the way, but every single dream will come true.

Imagine that there is nothing you have to do to make this happen. Imagine that you just have to wake up every morning and do whatever you are guided to do that day. That there is nothing to make up for first, and nothing to be earned. Imagine that you earned the right to have your life be perfect long, long ago.

Imagine that there is no course that you have set in front of you to overcome and accomplish. Imagine that there is no empire to build, or feat to endeavor. There is just a long row of sandy beach headed into eternity. It isn’t a place you go in unearthly realms, but a way you can live even the most earthly life.

You can certainly build all the castles and set all the courses which bring your heart joy, but they would be for that reason alone, and a spontaneous expression of your soul.

You haven’t missed your ship coming in. It wouldn’t come in without you, and you could never miss the moments you were born to have. Life is not a game of chutes and ladders, unless you are playing on them. You are exactly where you should be, and everything your heart desires is unfolding already. You are just going to show up to enjoy it, and put one foot in front of the other until then.

Faith is a fallen leaf which most would consider inconsequential, but which contains an infinite sunset and opens a portal to another world. It will never make sense to have faith, and often will seem totally absurd, but it lives deeper than any ocean, and flies higher than any bird. It knows things that are only whispered secretly to us by our souls, and it will tell us these secrets if we let it.

May the secrets unfold into your path like wildflowers in the woods. Love, Jennifer
